DESCRIPTION:California Poets in the Schools’ Poet-Teacher Independent Contractor Job Summary—Mendocino County \nCalifornia Poets in the Schools (CalPoets) seeks independent contractors to work on a contract or freelance basis as Poet-Teachers in Mendocino County\, specifically to work at high schools. CalPoets’ Poet-Teachers are professional writers who choose to give back to their communities as Poet-Teachers. They should have demonstrated experience in the literary arts and be passionate about teaching school-aged youth in public school settings. New CalPoets’ Poet-Teachers are paired with experienced mentors to prepare for classroom placement. This is a great opportunity for poets at all stages of their careers. DESCRIPTION:We are happy to announce that after a summer break we will resume our last Thursday poetry series. We will meet on Thursday\, August 25\, at 7PM at the Grace Hudson Museum in Ukiah. The featured reader will be Lake County poet laureate Georgina Marie Guardado. \nGuardado is the Poet Laureate of Lake County for 2020-2024\, and a Poets Laureate Fellow with The Academy of American Poets. She is the Poetry Out Loud and Inaugural Youth Poet Laureate Program Coordinator for the Lake County Arts Council\, and Literary Editor for The Bloom. She is a contributing writer for Antioch University’s Common Thread News\, and the Literacy Program Coordinator for the Lake County Library. Her work has appeared in The Bloom\, Noyo Review\, Poets.org\, Humble Pie Magazine\, Gulf Coast Journal\, Yellow Medicine Review\, and Muleskinner Review\, and is forthcoming in Colossus: Freedom and Two Hawks Quarterly. She lives with her rescue dogs Kenya and Micco and her formerly feral cat Mistie\, and is currently working on her full-length poetry manuscript\, The Length of Trauma Covets. \nOpen mic session will follow the featured reading. DESCRIPTION:Theresa Whitehill & Georgina Marie Guardado\nPoetry at the Willits Playhouse Starlight Lounge \nLocal poets Theresa Whitehill and Georgina Marie Guardado are featured readers at Starlight Lounge\, a bi-monthly poetry series at the Willits Community Theatre. \nCalifornia poet\, letterpress printer\, and broadside artist Theresa Whitehill served as Poet Laureate for the city of Ukiah from 2009 through 2011 and has been involved her entire career in the production of poetry readings and literary events. In January of 2022 her poetry letterpress broadsides were featured in an exhibit at Partners Gallery in Mendocino\, part of a coast-wide book arts festival instigated by Whitehill and her two co-exhibitors\, Felicia Rice and Zida Borcich. She is currently working on Heavy Lifting\, a collaborative artist’s book publication with Felicia Rice of Moving Parts Press\, forthcoming in December 2022. \nGeorgina Marie is the Poet Laureate of Lake County for 2020-2024\, a Poets Laureate Fellow with the Academy of American Poets\, and the Literacy Program Coordinator or the Lake County Library. She is the Literary Coordinator for the Lake County Arts Council\, Poet in Residence for The Bloom\, and serves on the Board of Directors for the Mendocino Coast Writers’ Conference. Her work has appeared in The Bloom\, Noyo Review\, Poets.org\, Humble Pie Magazine\, and Yellow Medicine Review. \nAn open reading will be held after the featured readers have read. Entry into the reading is by donation and no one will be turned away from lack of funds. The wearing of facial coverings by the audience is recommended.

DESCRIPTION:Poetry Postcard Fest 2022 \nPoetry Postcard Fest\, or PoPo for short\, is an international annual literary event produced by Cascadia Poetics Lab out of Seattle\, in which people sign up to send 31 original poems on postcards to folks on a participation list before the end of August (31 poems because originally it was set up to send a poem/postcard a day for the month of August; it has since expanded to allow sending of poetry postcards anytime after receiving a list of postcard recipients after registering. The Fest was initiated in 2007 by poets Paul Nelson and Lana Ayers\, and has grown to include poets participating worldwide. Registration deadline for 2022 is July 4. \nA little background as to why this is appearing on my poetry events calendar for Mendocino: Mendocino poet Theresa Whitehill has been involved with Cascadia Poetics Lab since 2019\, when Paul Nelson came to Mendocino County to interview Mary Norbert Korte for his American Prophets series.
