Understory is a 16 mm film exploration of the redwood forest floor that will be shown to live cello improvisation by Marcia Sloane. Devreaux Baker and Eve Luckring will read poems reflecting on the forest and environs.

Filmed in extreme closeup, in short bursts, the film gives the feeling of exploring the forest floor on hands and knees, blinking at the wonders illuminated by the shifting light. Some of the film is processed with a homemade eco-developer made from the bark of a fallen redwood tree.
