Ukiah Poet Laureate Appointment for Theresa Whitehill

The Ukiah City Council announced at their Wednesday, April 15, 2009 meeting the appointment of Theresa Whitehill as Poet Laureate for Ukiah for a two-year term. Whitehill, who has served on Ukiah’s Poet Laureate Committee from 2002 through 2007, is the fourth Laureate for the city of Ukiah, a program that was initiated in 2001. She succeeds Armand Brint, Ukiah’s first Poet Laureate, who served from 2001 to 2004, Linda Noel (2004 to 2006), and David Smith-Ferri (2006 to 2009).

Ukiah’s Poet Laureate Committee promotes poetry in the community and produces a range of literary events, including the ukiaHaiku Festival, currently in its seventh year.
